Beating the leaders by a point: Pontyberem RFC

ON Saturday (Oct 20) Pontyberem RFC beat division 2 West league leaders Penclawdd 18-17.

It was a tight game at Pontyberem Park, which could have gone either way but the home side pipped it in the end as Penclawdd missed a long range penalty attempt.

All of Pontyberem’s points came from the boot of outside-half Mike Sauro who kicked 6 penalties.

Penclawdd will take heart from the loss having seen the sheer speed and skill of their fullback Kristian Corbisero who put on a dazzling display of rugby scoring a hat trick of tries. Dan Guarneri did the honours of adding a single conversion for the visitors.

The win takes Pontyberem to 7th in the standings, while Penclawdd despite the loss away from home remain the team at the top of the table.

Pontyberem do not have a league fixture this weekend, however Penclawdd are in action again, this time at Carmarthen Athletic.

Burry Port 17-24 Mumbles
Fishguard 27-24 St Clears
