FOR the 6th year running, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) have successfully maintained Level 5 of the Green Dragon Environmental Management Standard.
Audited against the prescribed and rigorous standard of the Green Dragon Environmental Management System 2016; Level 5 is the highest standard of Green Dragon accreditation that can be awarded to an organisation.
Green Dragon is an environmental standard that is awarded to organisations that are taking action to understand, monitor and control their impact on the environment.
This is done through a variety of means, including guidance and procedural documents, site audits and sustainable projects. The Audit ensures the Service achieved the Standard criteria of:
- Continual environmental improvement
- Legal compliance with environmental legislation
- Pollution prevention
- Effective communication
The Service underwent a 3-day external Verification Audit between, 25th – 27th February 2019, at its Headquarters in Carmarthen, Training Centre in Earlswood, Neath Port Talbot, and Fire Stations at Pembroke Dock and Milford Haven.
The Audit confirmed MAWWFRS’s ability to evidence conformance to a high number of criteria standards.
Jess Millard, Sustainability & Environment Manager for MAWWFRS said “We are really pleased to retain this standard of accreditation as it shows our continual efforts to achieve a high functioning environmental Management system through our activities and procedures.
The Level 5 Green Dragon Environmental Standard recognises the Service’s commitment to continual environmental improvement through complying with applicable environmental legislation, managing our environmental impacts, setting out measurable objectives and achieving environmental targets.”
Area Manager Peter Greenslade, Corporate Head of Operational Support and Improvement said: “We are delighted to maintain our reputation as a leader of environmental standards amongst Fire and Rescue Services.
“Achieving the Level 5 Green Dragon Environmental Standard accreditation supports our intention to be a Fire and Rescue Service where sustainable development and environmental issues are embedded in all our decision-making processes; enhancing the economic, social and environmental well-being of our communities.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service recognise that our operations impact on the global and local environment and we are committed to minimising adverse environmental impacts within financial, operational and resource constraints.”
