Plaid Cymru Llanelli candidate Mari Arthur has said that only Plaid Cymru can be trusted to deliver for the people of Llanelli, after Labour broke a four day old election pledge.
Four days after pledging to ban zero hour contracts, Labour joined with the Conservatives to vote against a Plaid Cymru motion to scrap compulsory zero hour contracts in the social care sector in the National Assembly this week.
Mari Arthur said that only Plaid Cymru has pushed for positive action to ban zero hour contracts in Wales.
Plaid Cymru Llanelli candidate Mari Arthur said:
“Plaid Cymru has long campaigned to ban the use of exploitative zero hour contracts. They are unpredictable, they give workers no job protection and guarantee of income, and they often have unfair terms and conditions.
“That’s why Plaid Cymru has acted seven times in the National Assembly to ban the use of exploitative zero hour contracts in Wales. Unfortunately, Labour has joined with the Tories every single time to vote against it.
“As the director of the accrediting body for the real Living Wage in Wales, and as a business owner who pays my staff the real Living Wage, I know how important it is for people to have fair working terms and conditions. People deserve a fair wage and security in return for an honest day’s work.
“Clearly, Labour is too weak and too divided to carry out its duty in government and they cannot provide an opposition in Westminster. Only Plaid Cymru can defend Wales.”
