PONTYATES RFC opened their clubhouse doors and held a ‘Fun Day’ today, Saturday (Aug 25). The event was an opportunity for players old and new and their families to get together as well as providing a chance for the community to pop along and enjoy some good old fashioned games.
Where else could you go to do some welly throwing, precision goal kicking into a giant tractor tyre and play rugby with eggs, yes eggs?
This was a wonderful community event where families got together to enjoy the sunshine. Children were entertained with races, a bouncy castle and throwing wet sponges at some of the players who were locked in the stocks.
There was a raffle with some wonderful prizes, a barbecue and the clubhouse was in full swing serving fine ales and soft drinks.

Pontyates are about to start their new season and their coach Mike Jones said that the club were feeling positive with new signings despite the growing difficulty for many clubs in finding new young players.
Mike said that he was looking forward to the new season and that the event the players had organised was a way of giving something back to the community who support the club.
