KIDWELLY were hoping to spoil the party for Felinfoel as they took to the field at Parc Stephens on Saturday (May 5). The home team have had some impressive wins this season and their coach was optimistic at the start of the game.
Felinfoel had already won the title of Division 1 West Champions 2017/18 with games in hand and they could easily have taken a stroll in the park. That was not for this side who have plenty of pride and hwyl and know what the taste of winning is like. They’d brought a bus load of supporters with them and they were not going to leave them down.
The heat off and on the field was a joy. Blazing sunshine brought out the Kidwelly faithful and they were in fine voice giving the referee plenty of advice. The man in ice blue was equally cool as he ignored the howls of protest and kept the game flowing. The home team may just be justified in some of the claims and complaints but the visitors were putting on a show of rugby, which justified their own claims and there were no complaints from the fans.
Apart from one push over try the rest came from slick handling and fast running rugby, which left the home team wanting. It wasn’t until the last quarter that Kidwelly came alive and put on a fine show themselves running in two quick tries.
The final score was Kidwelly 17 – 34 Felinfoel
The champagne celebrations at the end of the match were well deserved and no doubt the rugby club will be awash with that local delicacy Cwrw Felinfoel this evening.
Llongyfarchiadau Mawr Felinfoel RFC. Well deserving champions.
