THERE will be a charity strongman competition at DW Sports Fitness First gym in Llanelli on Sunday (Oct 7).
The monies raised will be going towards helping a young girl with arthrogryposis have treatment known as Spider Therapy.
Emma Grace will take part in an intensive three week physiotherapy course in Oxford which will help make her standard of living better.
Matt Diamond is a avid weightlifter and member of the Llanelli gym. Talking about how the idea came to fruition he explained: “The aim is to get the word of ‘strongman’ out to the public but also to raise money for one of our members daughters. She was born with little or no muscle in her arms and legs and has had repeated operations.
“We are trying to send her to spider therapy which would improve her standard of life and help her walk a bit.
Matt has been training for 11 years and has been in the strongman competition for 18 months.
He continued: “I used to play rugby but I got injured too often so I decided to switch sports. I am now hopefully looking to go into UK strongest next year.”
Competitors on the day will take part in a number of exercises including max reps for dead lift and clean and press, farmers walks, tire flips with sandbag run and a prowler push and pull to finish off.
A number of prizes have been donated to the highest ranked winners of the competition.
DW Sports Fitness is a franchise with hundreds of stores all over the UK, a refurbishment has just been completed at the Llanelli gym with new ‘top of the range’ equipment.
Emma will be attending the presentation at the end of the competition on Sunday and a week after she will be presented with the money which has been raised for your therapy sessions.
