MORE Carmarthenshire communities have joined the Pride in your Patch campaign to help clean up their environment.

Over the past few days, three more events have taken place – at Darren Las in Upper Tumble; at Pembrey; and at Llwynhendy.

At Tumble, volunteers did a litter pick of the whole estate and collected around 12 black bags full of rubbish.

In Llwynhendy, a new community group has been set up which carried out a clean-up of the aftermath of the Christmas Fair held last Friday evening.

#OurLlwynhendy worked in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council, Llanelli Rural Council and local volunteers to collect 10 black and eight blue bags from the green open spaces and footpaths around the library and in the MUGA area.

Pembrey Brownies were helped by volunteers to collect eight black and four blue bags of litter along the cycle track.

Pride in Your Patch is a partnership project working to support volunteers, community groups, registered charities, and not-for-profit organisations to clean up areas of public land.

Partners are Keep Wales Tidy; Carmarthenshire County Council; Ammanford and Carmarthen town councils; Llanelli Town and Rural Councils; Spice time credits; Flytipping Action Wales; and Carmarthenshire Housing Standards.

The groups work with communities to help spruce up their areas through offering expert advice, equipment and assistance on:

  • litter picking
  • fly-tipping removal
  • graffiti removal
  • painting and general sprucing up
  • strimming and weed clearance
  • making your space more wildlife friendly

People can take part as an individual or a group and do as much or as little as they like, plus they can earn Spice time credits for volunteering.

Carmarthenshire’s executive board member for the environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Regular events are held across the county through Pride in Your Patch, more and more communities are helping to clean up their environment.

“We are happy to support any groups or individuals who are interested in improving their area.”
