FOLLOWING our article on the appeal by a town centre businessman to move a centre for clients at a centre for drug and alcohol misuse the Chairman of the Area Planning Board (APB) and Director of Public Health at Hywel Dda university Health Board has responded. In a statement Ros Jervis said:
“The Area Planning Board (APB) for drug and alcohol misuse is a multi – agency partnership that includes Hywel Dda Health Board, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire Local Authority, the Police and Crime Commissioner, National Probation Service and Dyfed Powys Police. The Area Planning Board commissions Barod (DDAS) to deliver services for individuals who wish to get help for their drug or alcohol problem. DDAS also provides valuable support to the families and friends of those who experience problems. Services have been delivered from the Vaughan Street location in Llanelli town centre for over 10 years. Those individuals attending DDAS are those who want to seek help to address their problems.
“The APB is aware of the concerns raised by the local businesses and has taken a range of actions to address these including the establishment of an action group, involving local businesses, to explore the issues and address concerns urgently. DDAS has also identified a business link worker who will visit local businesses to discuss their concerns and be a point of contact for support to address any ongoing issues as they arise.
“The APB is working proactively to meet the needs of local people, businesses and those vulnerable members of our society that need to access drug and alcohol services.”
