Llanelli’s Matthew Turner signs for Leeds

A Llanelli teenager has signed a two year scholarship with Leeds United football team.

16-year-old Matthew Turner was at Elland Road, the home of Leeds last Friday (April 20) to sign the full time contract.

The former Burry Port pupil plays for Pontadawe ACAD and has represented Wales Under 16's.

Glan Letheren who has been coaching Matthew for the past 15 months signed for Leeds United at the same age in the early 1970's.

Llanelli Town AFC (The Reds) take Welsh League Div 1 title honours and promotion

Llanelli Town AFC (The Reds) became the Welsh League Division 1 Champions on Saturday (Apr 21) by beating Port Talbot Town by three goals to one away from home. The club have succeeded in winning three titles and three promotions in five seasons.

Goals came from Chris Jones (22 mins) going past a couple of Port Talbot defenders before driving home a great strike into the bottom left hand corner of the net to beat the Port Talbot keeper.

AFTER a competitive and rollercoaster season Dafen Ladies AFC have been crowned champions of the WWWGL league.

Speaking on the success, their manager Yvonne Collins said: "We set themselves a realistic target to win every game at home in the season and see where that could take us. A mini football team has been given a brand new kit to get their season underway courtesy of GI Joe's Personal Training in Llanelli.
