Hundreds of job losses as RBS announces branch closures

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is the latest well known name in the High Street to close shop in a period when the retail giants are toppling like dominos

RBS has announced it is closing 162 branches across the UK resulting in the loss of 792 jobs.

Plans to form a new “challenger” bank have stalled and RBS is no longer going ahead. The result is that its businesses in England and Wales, and Natwest in Scotland, were facing geographic duplication.

A number of Trinity Mirror paid-for regional weekly newspapers saw their circulation fall by more than 20 per cent year-on-year, new ABC figures show.

Homebase review could lead to store closures and job loses

YET another of the High Street retail giants looks set to close stores with job loses as they face a number of difficulties.

Homebase could soon be sold off by its struggling Australian owner Wesfarmers however, according to the Press Association, firms including Hilco, Endless, Lion Capital and even discount retailer B&M are considering putting forward an offer for the embattled DIY firm.

Poundworld store closures expected as company plans to launch CVA

POUNDWORLD is the latest retail giant set to launch a company voluntary agreement (CVA) in the coming weeks threatening hundreds of jobs and the closure of up to 100 stores.

According to Sky News, the discount retailer is due to announce the move early next month.

It is understood that although Poundworld would seek to redeploy staff where possible, it would inevitably lead to hundreds of job losses.

Poundworld reported a pre-tax loss of £17.1 million in the year to March 31.

Police urge businesses to consider increased safety measures

DYFED-Powys Police is urging businesses to consider increased security measures following an attempted burglary at a business in Dyffryn Road, Ammanford.

Two people were seen attempting to gain access to a unit at around 7.20pm on April 9.
