MID and West AM Simon Thomas co-hosted the Countryside Alliance’s ‘Rural Oscars’ in the Senedd Building. A local pub the Cottage Inn, Llandeilo was a worthy winner.
The awards ceremony recognises quality by honouring the skills and produce, tradition, enterprise and the people who go the extra mile for their communities. Categories included best Butcher, Local Food, Post Office, Pub and Rural Enterprise.
Llandeilo’s Cottage Inn came in first place as best pub and will go on to represent Wales at the House of Lords against the rest of the UK.
Plaid Cymru’s Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Simon Thomas AM, said: “I would like to warmly congratulate the owners and staff of The Cottage Inn in Carmarthenshire for maintaining high standards and stature within the community. Their hard work has been identified as going the extra mile for their customers.
“As Chair of the Assembly’s Cross Party Group on Pubs and Beer, this was a category of award that is of particular interest to me. I want to see both industries thrive and get the recognition that they deserve.
“The Countryside Alliance’s ‘Rural Oscars’ is now in its 14th year, bringing together thousands of nominations to give credit to those that surpass expectations. Anyone that gets shortlisted for an award shows merit through their hard work.
“I wish The Cottage Inn the best of luck as they go on to the next stage of the UK-wide competition by representing Wales in the House of Lords.”
