ON Saturday (Dec 29) Burry Port welcomed local rivals Pembrey to the Memorial Park for a much anticipated local derby in Division 1 of the Carmarthenshire League.
Burry Port started the match brighter and dominated possession from the start and were rewarded on the 20th minute when Rowan James from the edge of the box drilled the ball past the Pembrey keeper.
Pembrey kept fighting hard and got an equaliser with a cracking strike from Dean Thomas 25 yards out to make the score 1-1 at half time.
The home side continued to dominate in the 2nd half and James got his 2nd goal on 60 minutes to retake the lead.
Burry then kept pushing for a 3rd, hitting the post and coming close a number of times but despite this Pembrey weren’t going to go down without a fight and scored an equaliser with 10 minutes to go.
But Burry Port were to have the final say when they rallied back and with a few minutes left on the clock got the winner with a great strike from Wayne Williams.
A great game played in great spirit by both teams, a fantastic way to end the year.
