Emergency services called to house fire in Pontyates

THE Emergency Services were called out to a house fire on Heol Llanelli in Pontyates today, Sunday (Jul 22).

A bystander told Llanelli Online that the fire had begun at approximately 7pm although that has not yet been confirmed by Mid and West Wales Fire and rescue Service.

There were no reports of anyone having been injured.

The fire appears to have taken hold in a bedroom in the two storey cottage.

B4309 Closed following two vehicle RTC

THE B4309 between Pontyates and Carmarthen is closed following a collision between two vehicles (18:52) Friday (Jul 20).

The Emergency Services are in attendance. No one is believed to have been injured in the crash.

The road is closed from just after the top of Heol Y Meinciau towards Carmarthen.

UPDATE: 19:20 The road is now open again.

Police attend early morning two vehicle RTC in Pontyates

THE School run had just finished when two vehicles were involved in a road traffic collision (RTC) in Pontyates today, Friday (Jul 20).

The two vehicles appear to have collided outside the Texaco service station in the village.

There were no reports of anyone having been injured.

The incident occurred approximately between 9 to 9.15 am.

Mass mortalities at Llanybri cockle beds

FOLLOWING our article on 11/07 (Gatherers anger at decimation of cockle beds) regarding the mass mortalities of cockles in the Burry Inlet and at Laugharne we have been contacted by cockle gatherers from Llanybri who claim that the beds there are also full of dead cockles.

READERS may remember that we reported on the decision by Tesco to ask the Lloyds Bank mobile banking service to leave the car park of the Pontarddulais Tesco store (Tesco send black horse packing) at the beginning of July 2018.

31-year-old male found deceased at Westbury Street

A 31-year-old male has been found dead in a lane between Westbury Street and Llys Y Drindod in Llanelli. The name of the man has not been released however, in a statement issued today Dyfed-Powys Police said:

"Dyfed-Powys Police was called to a lane between Westbury Street and Llys Y Drindod in Llanelli at 10.15am on Friday, July 13 following concerns for a man’s welfare.

Kidwelly goes Carnival Crackers

WHAT a perfect day for a carnival it was on Saturday (Jul 14). At around 12 midday a plethora of characters including Elvis Presley, Old Miss Donald and her family, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Wonder Woman and a Panda driving a tractor made their way to Parc Stephens to take part in the parade.

The carnival field was already decked out with stalls and fairground rides as well as a stage set for magician Van Buren. No Red Arrows or Red Barrows this year.
