THE Christmas & New Year period (December 22nd – January 6th) will see an action-packed programme of parkrun events across nine West Wales locations.

Across the country, parkrun organise free, weekly, timed runs and they are open to everyone, free and are safe and easy to take part in. The 5K is held every Saturday during the year whilst the 2K for juniors aged 4-14 years old is on Sunday mornings.

These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and people of all abilities are encouraged to take part; from those taking their first steps in junior age group to those with more senior experience.

The parkrun events are all run by volunteers who ensure every week of the year, that the events can go ahead in a safe environment.

Latest stats as on 6th November 2018: Number of events – 124,869; Number of locations – 580; Number of runners – 1,840,401; Number of clubs – 5,676. That just shows you how popular parkruns have become across the United Kingdom.

All the 5K parkruns on Saturdays go ahead as normal on the 22nd December and 29th December and first weekend in January 2019.

Could you make a contribution to support local independent journalism?

Just over a year ago we launched Llanelli Online because we believed there was a need for a totally independent local news site. Our journalism is free from commercial bias and not influenced by rich owners, politicians or shareholders. This is important because it enables us to give a voice to those less heard, challenge the powerful and hold them to account.

Your support enables us to continue with this work as well as helping young trainee journalists get valuable work experience. With your support we can continue bringing our independent journalism to you.
