WHAT do you do to celebrate when you reach the grand old age of 101? You get all your friends together and head to Tumble Hall to play bingo of course.  That is exactly what Nancy Swinley originally from bonnie Scotland now living in Crosshands did today, Tuesday (Jan 30).

Nancy was showered with flowers and cards from family and friends including  Councillors Kim Thomas and Dot Jones, staff at the Tumble hall and staff from Gomer Williams Solicitors of John Street Llanelli.

Juliet Phillips-James of Gomer Williams Solicitors had made the journey to Tumble especially to present Nancy with the bouquet after hearing that Nancy was 101-years-old. Juliet said: “Gomer Williams are celebrating almost 100 years in business so it was lovely to come here and meet a lady who was born just over one hundred years ago. She looked fantastic and was so happy. It was a pleasure for us to make a small gesture for this lady who has seen so much in her lifetime.”

Nancy was optimistic about life and said that she was looking forward to reaching 114-years-of-age. She said that although times appeared to be harder when she was growing up, people were more contented with less.Nancy is extremely spritely for her age and was up until last year still painting her garden fence at her bungalow in Crosshands.

Surrounded by her friends at the hall Nancy said, “It is all about having good family and friends. Hard work won’t kill you but hard work and worry will.”

The bingo was interrupted for all to sing Happy Birthday to Nancy. Llanelli Online were fortunate enough to be invited to stay for a piece of the beautiful birthday cake. Penblwydd Hapus Nancy.
