There are numerous quotations, which could be used to describe the scenario being played out in Llanelli at the moment regarding the plight of the homeless or rather the zero homeless if statistics are to be believed.

Do we dare mention the soup kitchen? Do we dare acknowledge that there is a problem of homelessness in the town? Do we dare acknowledge that many of these people have mental health issues or drug and alcohol related problems? Do we dare suggest that something is done about it and that Llanelli rallies together to provide an emergency shelter for those who are homeless and sleeping rough?

The case for an emergency shelter for the homeless in Llanelli is one, which may see the light of day if enough people make the effort to do so. This is the view of one volunteer attending the soup kitchen in Llanelli. Speaking to Llanelli Online volunteer David Elliot said that he would buy the church in an instant if he could raise the money. Unfortunately David does not have that type of money but there are some who do and who might be willing to invest.

At present there are a number of buildings for sale around the town including a very large church on Cowell Street for sale with www.Mallard-properties.co.uk. Llanelli Online did the Math and with a selling price of £75,000 If every county, town and rural councillor donated their first months expenses the church could be purchased.

If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. Isaiah 58:10

If we look at the rise in salary of the CEO of the County Council we would see that a donation from that source could be substantial.

There may be someone or a number of people who could raise the money very quickly and David’s dream would be realised. Llanelli would be leading the way in demonstrating that charity begins at home and that it really does take a village to raise a child. Of course it is all pure speculation and no one is suggesting for a moment that any councillor nor the CEO are obliged to do anything at all. It is purely math.

There may be some other ideas out there and Llanelli Online would love to hear from you if you have one.
