YSTRADOWEN residents association has spruced up an area of land with the help of Pride in Your Patch.

The group cleared the vegetation, picked up litter and planted wildflower seeds to transform the area and make it more accessible. Pride in Your Patch is a partnership initiative which aims to help provide a healthy, clean and safe environment.

Organisations include Keep Wales Tidy, Carmarthenshire County Council, Llanelli Town and Rural Councils, Ammanford and Carmarthen town councils, Spice time credits, and Carmarthenshire Housing Standards. They work to support volunteers, community groups, registered charities, and not-for-profit organisations to clean up areas of public land.

The groups work with communities to help spruce up their areas through offering expert advice, equipment and assistance on: litter picking – fly-tipping removal – graffiti removal – painting and general sprucing up – strimming and weed clearance – making your space more wildlife friendly.

People can take part as an individual or a group and do as much or as little as they like, plus they can earn time credits for volunteering. Carmarthenshire’s executive board member for the environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Well done to Ystradowen Residents Association which has helped transform a patch of land in their community.

“It proves that with a little enthusiasm and effort, and some support, people can make a real difference to their environment.

“Ystradowen are keen to meet with us regularly now to carry out more work to improve their community.

“I would encourage others to join in too, it is a really worthwhile initiative.”
