People in Pontyates and surrounding areas will continue to have their general health needs met by Meddygfa’r Sarn following the decision by Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB) to support the GP surgery as a managed practice from 1 October 2017.
Over the coming months, Hywel Dda UHB’s primary care team will work closely with the practice to ensure a seamless transition. Patients do not need to do anything as they will continue to receive their care from Meddygfa’r Sarn.
Following the difficult decision by Meddygfa’r Sarn to return their General Medical Service (GMS) contract to Hywel Dda UHB, a temporary closure of their patient list was approved by the Health Board for six months from 1 April 2017. Moving forward, the Health Board will work with the practice to agree a date to reopen the list and thus start taking on new patients again.
Jill Paterson, Interim Director of Commissioning, Primary Care, Therapies and Health Sciences for Hywel Dda UHB, said: “We understand there has been some concern regarding the future of Meddygfa’r Sarn and so I am pleased that we are able to provide this reassurance that general practice services will continue in Pontyates.
“The Health Board is committed to maintaining the high standards of care currently provided at Meddygfa’r Sarn and both teams are looking forward to working closely together to preserve general medical services for the local population.
“Registered patients will receive a letter in the next few weeks to inform them of this decision.”
